07-07-07 maybe not today but Occupation has to end in my lifetime

So it's 00:00, I counted 7,6,5,4,3,2,1 and watched the calendar switch to 08-07-07. The supposedly luckiest day of my life is over, and there was nothing lucky about it. it was a less than simple day, very close to slow and boring.
7 has been my favorite number for some time, and I always thought it brings me luck. Today somehow I realized I don't need good luck on the seventh day of the seventh month, I've had so many blessings on all kinds of not so lucky days, so I guess I'll let it go this time.

Today is a very important day, the news are chewing over and over the 'New Seven Wonders Contest Results' -oh mabrook lal Petra, 3o2bal il Manara-, so they say that people from all over the world sent crazy numbers of sms messages to vote for the oh so wondery thing in their country, nice...
American idol? superstar? star academy? yup, again unbelievable numbers of sms msgs flying in the universe of telecommunication, isn't it wonderful when people can communicate their opinions.

hmm, let's say some person with a fair mind and a lot of money created a huge international sms 'Let's tell the world what we think' campaign, and the question was : 'Do you think the Israeli occupation on Palestine must end today'.
How many people around the world would bother to send a 10 cent, 32 agora sms to say YES, The occupation on Palestine MUST end today??!! Maybe I'm too frustrated with humanity these days but I really don't think we'll see a number worth mentioning on the news, or even on Maan news website.
WHY? are we less important? is a 1000 year rock more important than millions that are suffering everyday? are singers that have no talent or brains more important??
I was watching Melody hits music station when I went home, and I couldn't avoid being annoyed by the sms messages people were sending to each other all day long on these channels, I mean seriously why are the priorities of youth so messed up?!!!

We're not behind because of the dictator governments we're behind cause we spend too much time blaming and little time thinking and working.
our governments are so bad because we as people are weak, we're emotional and can't really argue strongly enough to say this is what we want, and that's not you. we're too stubborn to admit that someone other than us is right and if we do, we follow blindly instead of being involved in the process.

I want change, I want the situation in my country to change, I want the way people act there to change, not everything, just a tiny bit of change that is enough for us to start building, I need to be part of the building of this country, I want it to start happening in my lifetime.

I like the courage you have.
LOL!!! the courage you have is just too big to start building change in your country. I think, believe and trust that you can do it if there is no one to do it, what of, if you are the one to change your country?. Please, do not blame yourself / people's weakness for government been bad. just believe that one day some day there will be no violence, no more suffering and the like, sky is the limit.

I remember one incident happened on February 27, 2008, when Israeli missile strike killed 5 Hamas terrorists. A large scale Israeli raid began February 29 and continued for several days, killing over 100 Palestinians. Israel claimed that only ten Gaza civilians were killed, while the Hamas claimed that the raid killed mostly civilians. Ahead of a visit to the region by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the United States called for an end to the violence. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas suspended direct negotiations with Israel, but these were resumed on March 5. The Hamas declared victory.

Following urgings by Secretary of State Rice, Israeli-Palestinian negotiations resumed. According to Abbas, the sides were discussing core issues such as the future of Jerusalem, but no details were made public. Israel announced contracts to build housing for settlers in the Har Choma neighborhood of East Jerusalem and other areas in the West Bank, angering Palestinians. This announcement was followed by several contradictory announcements by Israeli government officials regarding settlement expansion policies.

Salam Mai !!
Your name is pretty ( it means in french May ie , the month :-) )

Reading the note and using the little background I have , I can say that what is really reallly happening to Palestine , Gaza or whatever other city is mainly because , the people who re govering your country are seeking for a personal interest and not a common one though Palestine is for Palestinians .

To me , I see that this longing issue will be solved when ( once again) the governors decide to unify their forces , power instead of killing one another !!!
The day when people start believing in the moral values , human values ... putting in mind that it s only a life ... that we have to take care of us as well as each other, our country and care about the coming generations ... that day , Both Palestine and the world will feel what Peace means !!!

Happy belated birthday May .
NB:
7 is my favourit number too :-)
Keep on believing in your dreams and as the proverb says it :
There s always some light at the end of the tunnel ... you re not forgotten , and people don t have much background and information about what is happening there , this does not mean they don t care , but some are afraid and even frustrated since the bad daily news . And I believe that things are changing for the better but VERY slowly !!!
All the best ,
Nassiba

I think your post is interesting. You're right; change is only going to happen when the people speak out, when they say 'look I'm not happy with this and we need to change it. We need to find a solution'. And I think this is a dialogue that needs to be going everywhere. In Israel, in Palestine. The world needs to speak out and demand that the leaders start thinking less about their conflicts and more about what it's doing to their people.

Someday change will happen. And it'll be because people like you keep talking and hoping for it. =)

world peace is not just for beauty pageants
this is a very nice thought provoking piece
I too echo your desire for change - I would also include change in values (individualism never helped anyone really and capitalism seems to be letting us down lately)

"I want change, I want the situation in my country to change, I want the way people act there to change, not everything, just a tiny bit of change that is enough for us to start building, I need to be part of the building of this country, I want it to start happening in my lifetime."

Mai's - things happen for a purpose.
"WHY? are we less important? is a 1000 year rock more important than millions that are suffering everyday? are singers that have no talent or brains more important??"

The above statement made me realise how troubled your heart is right now, honey! you are not less important, its just that everything has its own time.

Every challenge rose above your leaders, your culture will be history, it will be something you have never seen - to see your nation at peaceful and just. Change will prevail.

We love you all and feel for you. Know what!! Its sad coz I have tried to put myself in your shoe but am not strong enough cope what you are going through right now.

Mai's,
YOU ARE BRAVE, COURANGOUS - Match on with heart courageous and follow anywhere you what to, trust your heart to show you everything you ever need. Don't think that time is moving so fast and chances seem so few, NO!

it is our prayer to see people live in Peace and harmony in your country.

Change, Change till its changed.

the love you have towards your people can lead you to make a change.
i feel the same like you mai. but we can all do something to make a change .you can join organisations such as amnesty international , you can be involved and start taking actions and this can take you far to make a change in your country. even making speeches in front of politicians can make a difference.you know you can make a change in your country because you are very caring , patriot, brave and highly concerned about you Palestine's issues. we all hope to see a change in Palestine

Yes, your love
You are right Angel,

Its only the matter of standing and say NO to violence - let the world know that you are there for a change, coz it seems like the all world has failed, the Ahead of a visit to the region by Condoleezza Rice, to end to the violence was totaly for nothing and no details were made publicly.

We really hope to see change.
